our team and clients
We specialise in fast and agile solutions to traffic and transport problems.
We have over 25 years worldwide experience in solving transport problems and in supporting development plans.
To help us deliver our fast and agile approach we have developed our own traffic capacity analysis and design software.
The firm was established in 1988 as an international traffic planning consultancy trading as John Codd Transport Consultant.
The firm traded as fast-answers.com Ltd from 2003 to 2016 and now trades as John Codd & Associates.
Our business is all about people and we believe in long term business relationships.
We love solving traffic, transport and development problems - and deliver quality solutions on time and within budget.
Our core professional traffic and transport team consists of John Codd and Dominic Mullen.
John and Dominic, each with over 35 years experience in the traffic and transport sector, bring depth and breadth to the practice.
John brings extensive international experience having successfully completed projects in all five inhabited continents.
We have a long term R&D relationship with Edinburgh Napier University and have appointed Professor Wafaa Saleh (Transport Research
Institute) and Professor Alistair Lawson (School of Computing) as advisors. Jamie Codd, previously
fast-answers.com Ltd Company Secretary, continues to assist the firm and completes our team.
International Traffic Transportation and Planning Expert
John has a wide ranging experience and an excellent track record facilitating teamwork, cooperation and successful projects. John has been with the firm since its initial formation in 1988. He has extensive experience working on a wide range of international projects and has a keen interest in the tranportation aspects of master planning, tourism, urban design and developing economies.
John is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, and a Chartered Civil Engineer. His engineering background brings a grounded focus to his planning work. Prior to setting up the firm John worked in the private and public sectors and for a short time as an academic. He is passionate about productivity but saving time does not mean compromising on quality. He is committed to delivering quality projects on time and within budget.
Traffic and Transportation Engineer
Dominic is an experienced traffic engineer / transport planner. Having undertaken a extensive range of projects for both public and private sector clients, he has developed a broad and detailed knowledge of all aspects of transportation planning and traffic management / engineering. He has extensive experience in project management and direction, and has particular expertise in the analysis of transport impact of new development, master planning, bus priority, road safety and measures to assist cyclists. He has appeared as an expert witness at several public inquiries and worked on a number of major trunk road upgrades, undertaking traffic and economic assessments.
Dominic has a long track record of delivering successful projects working with the MVA Consultancy for many years. In 2010 he set up as an individual consultant and subsequently joined forces with John Codd & Associates (formerly fast-answers.com Ltd).
Edinburgh Napier University
Wafaa acts as an advisor to John Codd & Associates and has assisted in the development of our Fast-Answers junction capacity assessment and design software. At TRI Wafaa teaches and researches in modelling travel behaviour, travel demand management and sustainability, traffic safety and accident management, and transport and the environment. John Codd & Associates and Professor Saleh of TRI have collaborated on various funded R&D projects relating to our Fast-Answers software and in the field of simulation. Wafaa is a member of a number of national and international scientific committees' editorial teams for transport and sustainability conferences and related academic journals. Recently, her research interests have extended to transportation problems in the Middle East, road safety in particular.
Edinburgh Napier University
Alistair acts as an advisor to John Codd & Associates and has assisted in the development of our Fast-Answers junction capacity assessment and design software. At Edinburgh Napier University's School of Computing he is involved with research and knowledge exchange projects in the areas of data science, software engineering, applications development, scalable systems and simulation. John Codd & Associates and Edinburgh Napier University's School of Computing have collaborated on various funded research projects and the firm has assisted with honours projects in the field of simulation. Alistair supervises honours, MSc and PhD students and is line manager for a number of research staff.
Although not a transport infrastructure professional, and with a background in sales and marketing, Jamie brings well over 10 year experience with blue chip clients in the Logistics sector, including several years helping turn around the UK Channel Tunnel business. He also has extensive experience in the transfer of private sector roads to (and for adoption by) local government; and has recently contributed to BBC TV and Radio 4 programmes on this topic.
